Chennai: A divorced woman from Mylapore was allegedly cheated by a man who she met on Facebook, Promising to marry her, the cheat relieved her of Rs 1.5 lakh cash and jewels.

Police said the woman, who is a resident of St. Marys’ road in Mandaveli and runs a physiotherapy clinic in Mylapore, came in contact through Facebook with Jayachandran. The man from Minjur claimed to be a businessman. He maintained contact with her through Facebook and also WhatsApp. They were friends for one and a half years, police said.

The victim was a divorcee and J. Jayachandran allegedly used this opportunity, telling the victim he had separated from his wife. The duo met in person and subsequently fell in love. Jayachandran promised her he would marry her.

In her complaint to the Mylapore All Women police station, the physiotherapist alleged that Jayachandran took Rs 1.5 lakh cash and diamond jewellery from her. She became suspicious after he began skirting the topic of marriage and also started avoiding her.

When she understood he was cheating her, she filed a complaint with Mylapore All women police on Thursday. After conducting inquiries police launched a search for Jayachandran and arrested him on Friday. Police are inquiring if he has cheated any other women with the same MO.
