Stanley medical team performs surgery on Nanguneri victim
Tirunelveli: A medical team from Stanley Medical College performed hand (plastic) surgery on the 17-year-old dalit student who was hacked by his classmates from the maravar community recently in Nanguneri in Tirunelveli district.
The boy requires four weeks of bed rest on plasters after which the next course of treatment will be decided, said the team that met reporters at the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital on Monday.
The three-member team carried out surgery for his injuries on both hands repairing the soft tissue damages like on tendons, muscles, nerves and arteries. He had suffered cut injuries in seven to eight places and most of the surgeries have been carried out already by the doctors in Tirunelveli Medical College.
Dean of the college Revathy Balan said that the boy’s 14-year-old sister, has recovered completely and she will be discharged soon. Based on the instructions of the chief minister, the expert team from Stanley Medical College studied the boy’s condition. The boy has been taken care in an infection-free environment and she pleaded with the visitors to cooperate with the doctors by reducing their visits and helping him to recover.
Meanwhile, Congress legislative floor leader K Selvaperunthagai met the siblings and their family members on Monday. He said that the incident has brought a bad reputation to the state government.
