A 17-year-old girl was gang-raped near Vellakovil. It has been reported that the police are interrogating 6 people in connection with this horrific incident.
The increasing number of sexual crimes against women is alarming. Especially the increase in brutal incidents of rape of girls is causing serious fear among the public.
Recently, the incident of rape and murder of a 9-year-old school girl in Puducherry created a sensation across the country. While the shock of this incident has not gone away, the incident of rape of a girl in Tirupur district has created a stir.
On March 9th, a Chariot Festival was held at Vellakovil Veerakumarasamy Temple in Tirupur District. A large number of people from that area visited this festival which is famous in Vellakovil area.
A music concert is held in the evening after the chariot festival. A 17-year-old girl, who had come with her mother, suddenly disappeared while a large number of people had gone to the event as spectators. Subsequently, when her mother searched for the girl, it was revealed that the girl had been gang-raped.
The girl, who was lost in the crowd, was abducted by a gang of 6 people in a car and gang-raped. Following a complaint filed by the girl’s parents, the police registered a case and are looking for 6 people. It has been reported that the police have arrested 6 suspects and are investigating.
