MK Stalin Warns of State Disintegration if BJP Regains Power in 2024 Elections
Chennai, Tamil Nadu: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin issued a stark warning on Saturday, cautioning that a BJP victory in the 2024 elections could spell the end of federalism and even the existence of states in India.
Speaking at a rally in Thanjavur, Stalin launched a blistering attack on the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asserting that the upcoming elections would determine the fate of democracy in India.
“If the BJP regains power, federalism, democratic norms, and parliamentary processes will cease to exist, and states might not survive,” Stalin declared, painting a dire picture of the consequences of a BJP victory.
Drawing parallels with the contentious division of Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories, Stalin underscored the BJP’s alleged disregard for democratic principles and warned of similar repercussions for Tamil Nadu.
“We’ve witnessed the undemocratic partition of Jammu and Kashmir, with political leaders detained and no legislative assembly in place. The BJP’s authoritarian rule could replicate such chaos in Tamil Nadu and across all states,” Stalin cautioned.
Accusing the BJP of targeting opposition leaders to stifle dissent ahead of the elections, Stalin accused Prime Minister Modi of abusing his power to suppress opposition voices and undermine the country’s democratic fabric.
Moreover, Stalin criticized the Centre for withholding funds from Tamil Nadu, alleging that PM Modi’s administration is neglecting the state due to anticipated electoral repercussions.
Reacting to the Supreme Court’s rebuke of Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi for defying court orders, Stalin demanded Ravi’s resignation, citing the unprecedented condemnation from the judiciary.
Tamil Nadu is set to vote in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections on April 19, with the results scheduled for June 4. As the political landscape intensifies, the DMK, part of the opposition INDIA bloc, faces off against BJP alliances in a crucial electoral battle.
