“Positive Progress” in listing Masood Azhar as a Global Terrorist, claims China
CHINA: On Monday, China has claimed to be making “positive progress” in listing JeM chief, Masood Azhar who is based in Pakistan as a Global Terrorist. China has also accused US for not giving it time to take a decision for the matter and had instead giving the matter directly in the hands of the Security Council.
The French had offered a proposal to China which asked them to list Azhar under the 1267 Al Qaeda Sanctions Committee of the Council. On the 27th of March, USA circulated a draft resolution to the powerful 15-nation Council which appealed them to blacklist Azhar and bestow a travel ban and also asked them to freeze his assets.
US had claimed that China had been stalling the ban on Azhar in order to protect the terrorist. China on the other hand has denied to all the allegations that has been put on them in-spite of their repetitive attempts of saving Azhar from being listen as a global terrorist.
The foreign ministry spokesperson of China, Geng Shuang spoke to the media in a briefing on Monday. He stated that after the application of listing Azhar has a global terrorist was proposed, China had been in close communication with the various parties and made “positive progress”. He also mentioned that the US is also aware of it.
