Former Bangladesh Star Tamim Iqbal Hospitalized After Heart Attack in DPL Match

In a shocking turn of events, former Bangladesh cricket captain Tamim Iqbal faced a major health scare during a Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match on March 24, 2025. The 36-year-old, leading Mohammedan Sporting Club against Shinepukur Cricket Club at the BKSP ground in Savar, complained of chest pain during the first innings. Initial medical checks led him to leave the field and seek further evaluation at KPJ Specialised Hospital.

Despite efforts to return to the field, Tamim's condition took a nosedive, necessitating emergency cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and shock therapy administered by the team physio. Promptly, he was rushed back to the hospital for decisive care. It was there that doctors identified a major heart attack and performed an emergency angioplasty. This critical procedure involved the insertion of a stent to clear a blocked artery and restore normal blood flow.

Following the surgery, Tamim regained consciousness, and his vital signs were stabilized as he was shifted into intensive care. Officials from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), including president Faruque Ahmed and Tamim's uncle Akram Khan, dashed to the hospital to keep a close eye on his progress. Companions from the cricketing world, like Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and Taijul Islam, showed their support by visiting him during his recovery period.

After receiving top-notch care at KPJ and later at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka, Tamim was discharged on March 28, 2025. While he's on the mend with cautious optimism, the doctors have advised him to adopt lifestyle changes and emphasized the necessity of a follow-up medical board review in three to four months to evaluate his potential return to cricket.

Despite his retirement from the international scene back in January 2023, Tamim has continually made waves in domestic circuits. He recently steered Fortune Barishal to two Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) titles and was on a run-scoring spree in the current DPL, amassing 368 runs with two centuries to his name. Although he has been discharged, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictability of life and the passion that keeps these sports stars pushing boundaries day in and day out. His well-being remains a priority for fans and cricket enthusiasts who eagerly await news of his complete recovery.
