Tirunelveli Power Board Advocates Electric Vehicles for a Greener Future
In a progressive move towards sustainable living, the Tamil Nadu Power Generation and Distribution Corporation, specifically the Tirunelveli Power Distribution Circle, is actively promoting the adoption of electric vehicles. The directive, issued by District Chief Electrical Engineer David Jebusingh, aims to raise awareness among the public about the benefits of transitioning to electric vehicles.
Kutthalingam, the Rural Divisional Executive Engineer, emphasized the significantly lower maintenance costs associated with electric vehicles. He highlighted the absence of fuel expenses, scarce spare parts, and the simplicity of electric motor and battery usage, eliminating the need for gears. Electric vehicles offer a hassle-free driving experience – just turn on the vehicle and accelerate.
Moreover, the promotion of electric vehicles aligns with environmental conservation efforts. The reduction in natural pollution and the potential decrease in crude oil imports contribute to the country’s sustainable development. Electric vehicles also play a crucial role in minimizing noise and environmental pollution.
To incentivize the shift towards electric vehicles, users can enjoy a 50 percent reduction in toll charges at National Highway toll booths. The government offers tax concessions of up to Rs. 1.5 lakh for loans obtained to purchase electric vehicles. This initiative not only helps in averting global warming and air pollution but also proves to be economically advantageous for users.
In an effort to further encourage the adoption of electric vehicles, plans are underway to establish charging stations along roads, making it convenient for users and contributing to the conservation of the country’s resources. The Tirunelveli Power Board’s advocacy for electric vehicles reflects a commitment to a cleaner, greener future and a sustainable approach to transportation.
